Call for Board Nominations
Nominate someone (or yourself) to join the AWIS board
2026 Board Nominations are now open.
We invite AWIS members and supporters to nominate themselves or others to serve on the AWIS Board of Directors. Applications are open through April 15, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET)
Serving on the AWIS Board provides an opportunity to help guide the strategic direction of the Association and support the advancement of women in science.
“AWIS board members bring expertise and a shared commitment to building a world where women in STEM can thrive,” said AWIS CEO Meredith Gibson. “I am grateful for the dedication of our national board members and that so many volunteer to serve a second term.”
AWIS is governed by a board of directors who have a wide range of experience, expertise, and core competencies that provide the strategic direction of the organization. The AWIS Nominating and Governance Committee is seeking to fill two (2) director positions on the AWIS National Governing Board whose three-year terms will run from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029.
The Nominating and Governance Committee utilizes a competency and multi-representational model for board member selection. The key competencies that are being prioritized this year include:
- fundraising and business development experience
- expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), including training design, responsible AI development, or ethical AI policy
- experience developing educational programs, professional training, or courseware
- representatives with experience working in academia
- individuals with STEM industry experience
- knowledge of scientific workforce trends and policies
Additionally, nominees with experience in nonprofit board governance, strategic planning, finance, legal and advocacy issues, marketing and communications, and leadership in the STEM workforce are encouraged to apply.
The Role of the Board
The AWIS Board will meet four times a year and set the direction of the organization. Board members are also expected to donate annually (the amount depends on your passion for the mission and your ability to give) and to utilize your social and professional networks to benefit AWIS initiatives.
