WASHINGTON DC, March 13, 2026 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) announces the 2026 AWIS Board Nominations cycle is open. The AWIS Nominating and Governance Committee is seeking to fill two director roles for the July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029 term. Individuals interested in advancing the AWIS mission to champion women across all science fields and sectors so they can achieve their full potential are encouraged to apply.
“AWIS board members bring expertise and a shared commitment to building a world where women in STEM can thrive,” said AWIS CEO Meredith Gibson. “I am grateful for the dedication of our national board members and that so many volunteer to serve a second term.”
The Nominating and Governance Committee utilizes a competency- and representation-based model for board member selection. Priority competencies for this year include fundraising and business development, expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), including training design or ethical AI policy, and experience developing educational programs, professional training, or courseware.
Additionally, nominees with experience in strategic planning and foresight, legal and advocacy issues, fundraising, and/or experience fostering inclusive environments are encouraged to apply.
Interested and qualified individuals should review the job description, expectations, and responsibilities. Applications must be submitted online by April 15, 2026. Applications will be reviewed by the nominating committee which is comprised of members of the existing AWIS board. The committee will review nominations between April 16 and May 10, 2026, and candidates will be notified by May 15, 2026. Member voting on the final board slate will take place May 15 through June 15, 2026, with results announced at the AWIS Member Town Hall in late June 2026. Terms will begin July 1, 2026.
