Can you describe your current role and what your typical day looks like?

As a cybersecurity analyst, the goal is to safeguard the organization’s digital assets. My work requires vigilance, quick responses to incidents, and proactive measures to prevent cyber threats. Each day brings new challenges, requiring me to stay informed and adaptable to the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity.

What is your educational background and experience, and how did it prepare you for this career?

I have a master’s of science in information and communication sciences, this has given me a solid understanding of information systems and network security, which are key for a career in cybersecurity. My background as a journalist has sharpened my skills in research, analysis, and communication, helping me investigate cyber threats and clearly explain technical issues.

What is your proudest achievement in your career so far?:

My proudest achievement in my career so far is successfully transitioning from journalism to cybersecurity. This wasn’t a walk in the park; I had to obtain new certifications, understand complex technical concepts, and establish credibility in a new field.

This is my dream job! Knowing that my work as a security analyst helps make the digital world safer and more secure for everyone is incredibly fulfilling. It’s rewarding to know that I’m contributing to a resilient global digital community that benefits humanity overall.

How do you think your work impacts the broader community or the world?

My work protects sensitive data and critical infrastructure, ensuring the safety and privacy of individuals and organizations. By preventing cyber threats and educating others on best practices, I contribute to a more secure and trustworthy digital environment.

What are some strategies you use to maintain resilience and persistence in the face of obstacles?:

Staying resilient and persistent means constantly learning to keep up with new threats. Working closely with teams with different skill sets helps find creative solutions to challenging issues. It also means learning from mistakes and being flexible to handle unexpected changes in the cybersecurity landscape.

What are the emerging trends or technologies in your field that excite you?

Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), Zero Trust Architecture, IoT security, Behavioral Analytics are a few trends in my industry. These trends reflect ongoing efforts to address evolving cyber threats, improve detection and response capabilities, and adapt to the changing landscape of cybersecurity risks.
