Organization Overview
The Allen Institute is an independent nonprofit bioscience research institute in Seattle aimed at unlocking the mysteries of human biology through foundational science that fuels the discovery of new treatments and cures. We have teams of scientists working together to solve the biggest mysteries in bioscience through expansive research that examines the cellular makeup of the brain, how a healthy immune system fights disease, how our cells are organized, and more. Our scientists collaborate across teams to research fundamental questions about how life and disease work, continuing to push the frontiers of bioscience forward.
AWIS Partnership
The Allen Institute is committed to including and advancing women in science through mentoring, internships, and career development because we know that high-quality science can only be produced when it includes different perspectives, and women are still underrepresented in science fields. We are excited about the potential of this partnership with AWIS to support our commitment and to remove barriers to including women in STEM.
Company Culture
We are working to improve human health through big, team, open science. The Allen Institute’s purpose-built and state-of-the-art research complex is based in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, the city’s hub for technology and biomedical research.
At the Allen Institute, we believe that science is for everyone – and should be open to anyone who’s passionate about discovery and improving human health. We recognize that science has a long history of racism and exclusion, and we are dedicated to combating those biases within our own workforce and helping to reduce barriers to STEM careers more broadly. We strive to make the Allen Institute a place where everyone feels like they belong and are empowered to do their best work in a supportive environment.
