AWIS offers an experiential learning program for individuals who want to make the scientific workforce more inclusive.
How inclusive are you?
You may be practicing inclusive behavior the majority of the time, but knee-jerk responses can still creep in unexpectedly in stressful situations. AWIS offers a learning program for individuals who want to take control of these unconscious reactions and make the scientific workforce more inclusive.
AWIS offers a three-month program designed by Dr. Amanda Felkey to help individuals:
- identify when and how to think slowly
- establish new thought patterns and habits
- improve interactions at your workplace or lab
How it works:
1) Daily reinforcement: For three-months, you will receive a daily text (or email) with a question or small activity to complete. It could be as simple as change your screen saver to an inclusive image, read an article and share it with someone, or think critically about a question.
2) Social accountability: You’ll have the opportunity to connect with other likeminded individuals through the program’s software platform. Track your progress, share your commitments, or read about others’ experiences.
Proven success:
We have seen proven success in changing behaviors over time. Different cohorts have reported:
- 90% of participants surveyed in one cohort indicated that they were behaving more inclusively by the end of the program
- 68% of participants in another cohort self-reported that they listened better
- 50% felt more included and connected to their colleagues
- 53% put more heart into their job
- One group’s sense of belonging increased a statistically significant 13% along the General Belongingness Scale (Malone, Pillow, & Osman, 2012).

- $199 for AWIS members
