Dr. Serena Auñón-Chancellor always knew she wanted to be an astronaut. After earning an MD from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, including a year as chief resident in the Internal Medicine Department, she completed an aerospace medicine residency, plus an MS in Public Health in 2007. Three years after joining the Johnson Space Center as a Flight Surgeon, Dr. Auñón-Chancellor was selected to the 20th NASA astronaut class. In 2018 she logged 197 days in space in the International Space Station, becoming only the second Hispanic woman to fly into outer space.
