About the Session
Women in STEM fields deserve to bask in the joys of their career accomplishments, which are often the result of extraordinary strength, tenacity, and perseverance. Despite setbacks, they have forged their way forward. Behind many celebrated professional achievements are journeys that include disappointment, micro-aggressions, and subtle barriers that can challenge even the most resilient professionals. Such hurdles can accumulate over time, leading to emotional fatigue and moments of reflection where one may ask, “Is it even worth it?” For many women in STEM, the answer remains a resounding yes.
This one-hour session, Building Career Resilience Through Setbacks, led by clinical psychologist Dr. Lillian Gibson, explores how growth and renewed direction can emerge from challenging experiences. Grounded in evidence-based resilience and growth strategies, the session invites participants to reframe difficult moments as opportunities to build strength, clarity, and professional momentum.
Through reflective dialogue and practical strategies, participants will gain:
- Ways to reignite their passion for their work
- Ideas to reconnect with their personal and professional values
- Approaches for navigating challenges while sustaining long-term career fulfillment
Today’s STEM professionals are not only advancing discovery and driving critical breakthroughs—they are also shaping the path for future generations. Tomorrow’s STEM leaders will walk in the footsteps of today’s brilliance because of the resilience, courage, and perseverance demonstrated by those who continue to lead and innovate despite adversity.
Participants will leave the session inspired and equipped with strategies to cultivate personal growth, strengthen resilience, and continue building meaningful, impactful careers in STEM.
