Association for Women in Science Announces Call for Board Nominations
WASHINGTON DC, March 15, 2023 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is accepting nominations for two new directors for the July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026 term. Anyone who would like to further the AWIS mission of gender equity is encouraged to apply.
“Serving on the AWIS Board of Directors is a rewarding role that allows individuals to positively impact and amplify the career achievements of women in the scientific workforce,” said Meredith Gibson, AWIS CEO. “The association relies on the guidance of and collaboration with board members to make sure AWIS successfully executes its strategic plan and achieves its mission.”
AWIS utilizes a nominating committee to identify and recommend individuals who possess the competencies, experiences, and expertise that the governing board needs to set the strategic direction of the organization. Desired skills during this election cycle include:
- Accounting and auditing skills (chair the audit committee)
- Development/Fundraising expertise
- Innovative mindset and experience transforming organizations
- Knowledge of science policy and advocacy
- STEM workforce experience
Interested and qualified individuals should review the job description, expectations, and responsibilities. Applications can be downloaded must be submitted online by April 15, 2023.
Applications will be reviewed by the nominating committee which is comprised of members of the existing AWIS board. The nominating committee will share the slate on May 8, 2023. Members will have the opportunity to vote and a member town hall will be held on June 8, 2023. Terms begin on July 1, 2023.
