AWIS Announces Call for 2023 Annual Award Nominations

WASHINGTON DC, August 15, 2023 – The 2023 nomination window for the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Annual Awards opened today. Individuals may nominate themselves or a colleague that demonstrates strong leadership, innovative thinking, and a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility. Nominations will be accepted through 11pm PT on September 15, 2023.

The annual awards were restructured in 2022 to the following three categories:

  • Spark Award – Highlights a student or early career leader in STEM who is a visible and vocal advocate for diversity and inclusive scientific practices.
  • Meridian Award – Recognizes a mid-career professional whose diversity and inclusion efforts represent a true leader in the pursuit of workplace equity.
  • Zenith Award – Honors a senior career professional’s lifetime of innovative achievements and commitment to workplace diversity in STEM.

“These annual awards are designed to recognize AWIS members who have made significant contributions to increasing workplace diversity, promoting women into leadership positions, and advocating for more inclusive practices in STEM,” said Meredith Gibson, CEO of AWIS. “We look forward to learning about, celebrating, and highlighting our members and the positive impact they are making to advance equity in STEM.”
