Association for Women in Science Announces Partnership with Shimadzu Scientific Instruments
WASHINGTON DC, August 11, 2023 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is pleased to announce that Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) is the latest organization to join its partner program. Shimadzu values the diversity of employees and chose to partner with AWIS to increase collaboration, skill building and empowerment of employees, along with supporting the programmatic initiatives AWIS engages in on behalf of all women in STEM.

Gretchen Stangle, SPHR, SHRM-SCP Vice President, People Operations and Legal Affairs
Shimadzu faces the same challenge that the industry in general faces: a talent shortage, that includes the underrepresentation of women in STEM roles both in volume and leadership. As an organization, Shimadzu wants to provide more opportunities for career growth and leadership roles for women (and minorities) and believes that partnering with AWIS is one way to help us achieve this goal.
“The decision to join AWIS was a collaborative one between the Talent Acquisition and Inclusion, Diversity & Culture Teams at Shimadzu,” said Gretchen Stangle, Vice President, People Operations and Legal Affairs at SSI. “AWIS will provide opportunities for our employees to network and continue their learning which will help Shimadzu support the advancement of women in STEM/Leadership roles and attract a diverse talent pipeline.”

Kyndra Reid, PHR General Manager – Talent & Culture
“All our employees will benefit from the weekly newsletters, AWIS Magazine, live webinars and other recorded events, professional development opportunities and networking,” said Kyndra Reid, General Manager – Talent & Culture at SSI. “In addition, I hope to see our employees provide mentorship, coaching and general assistance/guidance to others in the association, as a way of giving back to the STEM community.”
“Shimadzu recognizes that talent is a company’s most important asset and a diversified workforce at all levels of an organization is a major key to success,” said Meredith Gibson, AWIS CEO. “The AWIS community and its programs will help support Shimadzu’s SUPER Women Employee Resource Group (ERG), help provide a workplace that embraces the uniqueness that each individual brings with them, and help Shimadzu continue innovating for a better tomorrow.”
