Strategic Storytelling That Moves Science Into Action: Make the Case for Change

Led by: Aleya Harris
Thursday, February 25, 2027
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET

About the Session

A valuable idea can stall when the people who need to support it cannot see why it matters, what is at stake or what to do next.

In this practical session, Aleya Harris helps scientists and STEM professionals turn complex ideas into clear, credible stories that build understanding and support action.

Participants will learn to organize a message around the audience’s decision, make the cost of inaction concrete without exaggeration, and connect evidence to a specific next step. Applications include gaining support for a new lab process, introducing technology, securing resources, influencing organizational change and advancing science advocacy. Attendees will begin a Story-to-Action Map for a real situation from their own work.

Attendees will learn to:
• Organize a complex idea around the decision the audience needs to make.
• Connect evidence, human stakes and a clear request without losing scientific accuracy.
• Make the value of preventive or long-term improvements easier to understand.
• Adapt the message for a colleague, leader, funder or broader public audience.
