Strategic Plan: Six Month Update
Review the initiatives AWIS has implemented and how they map to the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan priorities.
Priority #1:
Cultivating
and Expanding Partnerships
AWIS joined the STEMM Opportunity Alliance, a White House initiative that spans multiple sectors and aims to achieve STEMM equity by 2050.
AWIS board member, Dr. Joanne Kamens, became our representative on the Societies Consortium on Sexual Harassment in STEMM.
Priority #2:
Equity for all
Women and Girls
AWIS grew our membership to over 6300 and welcomed new AWIS partners in industry and academia — providing members with a greater network to explore and build connections.
AWIS launched a first-generation scholarship to support individual experiences of historically excluded groups and facilitate a pathway to a scientific profession.
Priority #3:
Deepening Connectivity
through DEI
Members are connecting via discussions in the online community. To further support member connections, AWIS hosted virtual roundtables for DEI leaders and retirees.
AWIS established a programming committee to ensure we are addressing contemporary issues and topics that members care about in our monthly webinars.
Priority #4:
Elevating
AWIS Chapters
In an effort to build local communities, chapters that are within 30 minutes of an AWIS Institutional partner will receive annual funds to support students and faculty from that facility.
Chapter fundraising pages created by the national office allow local leaders to expand the types of donations they receive, reduce their backend accounting work, and avoid the administrative fees.
