With New OSTP Head, AWIS Expects Further Gender STEM Equity Policies

WASHINGTON DC, August 9, 2018 – Association for Women in Science (AWIS) National Governing Board President Sue Windham-Bannister, PhD, made the following statement regarding the recent appointment of Kelvin Droegemeier, PhD, as director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP):

“Science and reason should ground sound policy recommendations and the appointment of Dr. Kelvin Droegemeier as head of the Office of Science and Technology Policy should be no exception. Through decades of AWIS research, we know that including women in every discipline and employment sector in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) produces greater long-term business growth, advanced team performance, and stronger, more innovative scientific work. We will look to Dr. Droegemeier to be an advocate for expanding opportunities, funding and resources for underrepresented groups in STEM and create inclusive, safe places for women to learn, innovate and work.”
