Makenzie Lystrup, PhD

Makenzie Lystrup, PhD, is the first female director of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Lystrup earned a PhD in astrophysics from University College London. Her thesis was an investigation of near infrared emissions from Jupiter’s upper atmosphere. Prior to joining NASA, Dr. Lystrup was vice president and general manager of Ball Aerospace’s Civil Space Strategic Business Unit, responsible for the company’s portfolio of civil space systems. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.
