Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, MPH, is the first member of the LGBT community to be director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. She is an infectious diseases specialist, internationally recognized for her work on sexually transmitted diseases, especially as they affect women’s health. Dr. Marrazzo’s experience includes research on the human microbiome, specifically as it relates to female reproductive tract infections and hormonal contraception; and prevention of HIV infection using biomedical interventions, including PrEP. She has held leadership roles in the NIH HIV Prevention Trials Network and the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium.
