Experience skills-based searching for better STEM job matches
We’re excited to bring you an improved career experience. Whether you’re just starting your journey, outgrown your current role, or looking for a new challenge, the new AWIS Career Center can help!
What do we mean by skills-based? The system will match the technical STEM skills that you possess with the required and desired skills of an employer’s job posting. Our growing taxonomy includes over 8000 technical STEM skills. Other platforms don’t offer this level of specificity when it comes to technical STEM skills. In addition, the smart algorithm has been programmed to understand the nuances in the STEM taxonomy. For example, if your resume lists “Western Blot” or “ELISA,” the algorithm knows those are biochemical assays and would include relevant roles in your search results.
How it works
Build your Skills Locker
Easily highlight your technical STEM skills for employers by selecting from over 8000 listed in the system. Jobseekers can complete a profile and build out their Skills Locker for FREE. You will be able to add to your Skills Locker and carry it throughout your career.
See only relevant roles
Employers will use the same taxonomy to define their required and/or preferred technical STEM skills. The algorithm will search for and suggest roles that match your qualifications. You will be able to see the skills that you would be using on the job.
Spend less time searching
Looking for a new opportunity can be time-consuming. Using the AWIS Career Center to focus your search and save time. The new system includes smart filters, personalized alerts, and resume tools to help you along the way.
Silence your inner critic
97.5% of women in graduate STEM programs have experienced imposter syndrome. Don’t listen to your inner critic! Trust that our smart algorithm has suggested roles that match your skillset. Spend more time applying and less time second-guessing yourself.
Bonus: It's aligned with our mission
The new skills-based algorithm was NIH-awarded for reducing bias in hiring. When employers search for candidates with a certain degree or specific job experience, they narrow their search too much and miss out on qualified candidates. By focusing on the required skills, all qualified candidates are included. 81% of jobseekers surveyed felt that skills-based hiring helped them gain access to new employment opportunities.
We also recognize that many women feel they need to tick every box of a job description before they will apply. The algorithm takes this into consideration and recommends roles based on a percentage of the required and preferred skills that you possess.
