Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

Consider a donation to AWIS to help women scientists fulfill their full potential.

More and more people are establishing Donor Advised Funds (DAF) to take advantage of the tax benefits. DAFs soared by 560% between 2011 and 2023, from $38 billion to an astonishing $251 billion. DAF benefits include:

  • You can make a donation at the end of the year to lower your tax liability and decide later where to direct the money.
  • A DAF helps keep all your charitable giving records in one place — making it easier to review and consider donations.
  • Even if you stop or slow your DAF contribution rate, DAF funds continue to grow (tax free) over time so you can give more.
  • Although it varies, the amount needed to establish a DAF may be minimal. Consult your financial institution or advisor to learn more.

To include AWIS in your DAF giving:

Please contact Meredith Gibson at gibson@awis.org or 202-827-9798. We would love to be able to say thank you and acknowledge any gifts greater than $1,000 in our annual report.

Remember to seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor. If you choose to include AWIS in your plans, please use our legal name and federal tax ID:

Legal Name: Association for Women in Science
Address: 1629 K St, NW, Ste. 300, Washington, DC 20006
Federal Tax ID Number: 23-7221574

Thank you for your generosity!

Your donations help:

  • Fund scholarships so that more AWIS members can focus on their research
  • Provide learning opportunities and connections that accelerate careers
  • Connect members with local and national mentors and organizations
  • Increase the visibility of women in science and breakdown stereotypes
  • Inspire underrepresented scientists to enter and stay in STEM
  • Give tomorrow’s leaders the skills and confidence to succeed
  • Celebrate the contributions of women and drive gender equity

WHO can establish a Donor Advised Fund?

Anyone seeking to lower their tax liability or to grow their giving impact over time should contact their financial advisor or a financial investing institution to establish a DAF.

HOW does a DAF work?

Once you open a DAF, you can fund it with cash, stocks, or other assets. Whenever you wish to donate to a charity, request an amount to be gifted from your DAF. (To support AWIS, use our Employer Identification Number (EIN) 23-7221574.)

WHEN should I donate via my DAF?

You can direct your DAF to give a grant at any time. October 9 is National DAF Giving day.
