Strategic Plan: July 2025 Update

Review the initiatives AWIS has implemented in the last six months and how they map to the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan priorities.

Priority #1:
Cultivating
and Expanding Partnerships

AWIS worked with our coalition partners on responses to recent policy actions. We encouraged members to attend the Stand Up for Science events and write Op Ed letters to their local news outlets describing the impact of science research.

We supported the Fathers Who Care campaign launched by Mothers In Science that was designed to dismantle outdated gender roles and inspire more men to embrace caregiving.

Priority #2:
Equity for all
Women and Girls

We revamped the AWIS advocacy toolkit and outlined noteworthy outcomes from NIH and NSF research. We encouraged AWIS members to contact their legislators and advocate for continued federal investment in science research and education.

The AWIS Advocacy Taskforce hosted members on Capitol Hill and wrote blogs about their experience. AWIS advocated for pending legislation that will benefit women in science such as the paycheck fairness act, the STEM booster act, Title IX protections, and the RESEARCHER act.

Priority #3:
Deepening Connectivity
through DEI

AWIS awarded nine scholarships totaling over $27,000 to women at different stages of their journey: 6 undergraduates, 1 doctoral student, and 2 women returning to work.

Our 4th annual Summer of Science campaign is in full swing. Our goals are to highlight members across STEM fields, educate the general public about the impact science has in their lives, and inspire the next generation.

Priority #4:
Elevating
AWIS Chapters

AWIS continues to offer our members a safe space where they can develop their skills and confidence. To strengthen our community and chapter documentation, this past year we updated the AWIS Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.
