AWIS Launches Bridge Grant Program to Support Members Impacted by Federal Funding Cuts

WASHINGTON DC, October 31, 2025 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) has established a bridge grant program to help scientists who have lost federal research funding to reach their next milestone. Thanks to a generous $100,000 grant from the Every Page Foundation, AWIS will provide microgrants of up to $5,000 to help early-career scientists continue their vital research and career development.

“The recent cuts to federal research funding have disrupted the careers of many promising scientists, especially those working to understand and broaden participation in STEM,” said Meredith Gibson, CEO of AWIS. “We don’t want to lose the progress we’ve made in equity and innovation. We are thankful to the Every Page Foundation for their support and hope these microgrants can combine with other funding sources to support those that have lost federal funding. When we invest in scientists, we invest in the future.”

AWIS will provide financial support to assistant professors and nontenured faculty (or tenured professors seeking to support their trainees). These microgrants may be used for essential expenses such as stipends, travel, publication fees, and research materials.

Applications for the AWIS Bridge Grant Program are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on December 15, 2025. Eligible applicants must be AWIS members and provide documentation of their original federal grant cancellation, along with a research summary and intended use of funds.
