AWIS Announces New Partnership Agreement with University of Texas Medical Branch

WASHINGTON DC, June 14, 2023 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is pleased to announce a new partnership with University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), the nation’s first public medical school and hospital under unified leadership. The AWIS-UTMB partnership was facilitated by Dr. Sheffield-Moore, Dean of the UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), Dr. Tracy Toliver-Kinsky, Assistant Dean of Recruitment at UTMB-GSBS and Professor of Anesthesiology, and Dr. Elizabeth Hileman, Senior Research Development Specialist, UTMB-GSBS.

Through this partnership, AWIS will connect UTMB students with career resources, inspiring role models, and a supportive community of STEM professionals while postdocs and faculty will have opportunities for collaboration, recognition, and volunteer leadership to further their STEM careers.

“The UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is excited to partner with AWIS and offer our trainees and faculty a unique set of professional development tools and networking opportunities,” said Sheffield-Moore. “The webinars, funding opportunities, magazine, and weekly newsletters are exceptional resources, and I am proud to bring them to our campus.”

AWIS’s information on issues impacting women in STEM and best practices to increase gender equality can support UTMB’s goals to train today’s and tomorrow’s healthcare workforce and innovate new ways to improve health.

AWIS CEO, Meredith Gibson added, “UTMB is known for its pioneering spirit, commitment to service, and enduring dedication to excellence. Through an AWIS partnership, the university has demonstrated its strong desire to blaze new trails for members of the UTMB community. AWIS is honored to have UTMB’s extraordinary expertise join and strengthen our network.”
