Association for Women in Science Announces Call for Board Nominations
WASHINGTON DC, March 13, 2025 – The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) announces the 2025 AWIS Board Nominations cycle is open. The AWIS Nominating and Governance Committee is seeking to fill six director roles for the July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028 term. Anyone who would like to further the AWIS mission to champion women across all science fields and sectors so they can achieve their full potential is encouraged to apply.
“I am grateful to all our national board members for sharing their rich perspectives and experiences, volunteering their skills, and devoting their time to champion women in STEM,” said AWIS CEO Meredith Gibson. “I’d particularly like to thank the members whose board terms are ending. I look forward to identifying and installing new board directors who are visionary, enthusiastic, collaborative, and dedicated to increasing the impact of AWIS.”
The Nominating and Governance Committee utilizes a competency and multi-representational model for board member selection. This year’s key competencies that are being prioritized include experience in higher education and academia, STEM industry knowledge, insights into scientific workforce trends and policies, or expertise in auditing, finance, marketing, sales, and/or program development.
Additionally, nominees with experience in strategic planning and foresight, legal and advocacy issues, fundraising, and/or experience fostering inclusive environments are encouraged to apply.
Interested and qualified individuals should review the job description, expectations, and responsibilities. Applications must be submitted online by April 15, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by the nominating committee which is comprised of members of the existing AWIS board. The nominating committee will share the slate and members will have the opportunity to vote on May 19, 2025 through June 20, 2025. Voting results will be announced at the Member Town Hall at 2 p.m. ET on June 20, 2025. Terms begin July 1, 2025.
