Lydia Jennings, PhD, is a soil microbiologist and environmental scientist. She earned her PhD in environmental science from the University of Arizona, focusing on how soil microbes can be used to clean up mining waste and restore ecosystems. A citizen of two indigenous tribes, the Pascua Yaqui (Yoeme) and Huichol (Wixáritari), Jennings is also an advocate for Indigenous representation and sovereignty in science. She gained national attention for her 2021 “Running for Justice” project, a 50-mile run honoring Indigenous scientists and activists who advance environmental and social justice. Jennings is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Dartmouth College.
