What’s the most important leadership lesson you’ve learned?

Communication. Effective communication is key to ensuring that desired goals are achieved. The message should be clear, transparent and customized to the recipient. It is also important to determine the most appropriate communication method that will work for the recipient.

What do you consider to be your most important career achievement or milestone?

In my prior role at Highmark Health (the second largest Integrated Delivery & Financial system in the country), I worked with companies on their commercialization activities, especially reimbursement related. I helped design high quality real world evidence studies, achieving a greater than 80% adoption rate by payor.

What do you aspire to accomplish in your career and why?

I aspire to help and encourage more researchers, especially in developing countries, to commercialize their medical technologies. This will require providing resources to assist in commercialization activities, and shifting the mindset from lab to being market ready- 

Describe an amazing opportunity in your STEM career.

As a Portfolio Manager for the prestigious Coulter Translational Partnership Fund at the University of Pittsburgh (one of only 16 schools selected nationwide), I developed best in class practices that have been deployed at other schools around the country, and also the National Institutes of Health.

How was AWIS helped you professionally and/or personally?

It is my passion to encourage more women to take up STEM careers, and AWIS has allowed me to connect with like-minded women, many of whom I really look up to. 🙂
