Be an AWIS Volunteer

Did you know that AWIS has hundreds of volunteers around the country?  These dedicated women and men serve on our national board, lead local chapters, write and edit the AWIS Magazine and the Washington WIre, and much more!

And, it's a win-win proposition as both AWIS and our members benefit.

Members

  • Acquire new expertise
  • Enrich their careers
  • Expand their circle of friends
  • Help others

 AWIS

  • Benefits from members' hard-won expertise
  • Becomes more effective
  • Does more
  • Reaches more women in science

Just a few of our volunteer opportunities...

Review for the AWIS Educational Awards Committee

We need reviewers for the award programs of the Educational Awards Committee. Generally we recruit faculty members for the graduate fellowships, but we use graduate students, school teachers, and others for the college scholarship program, to which high school seniors apply. If interested, contact Barbara Mandula, the committee chairwoman, at awisedfd@awis.org.

Serve on an AWIS Committee

Several committees would love to involve more members. Contact the AWIS national office to volunteer-send an email to the AWIS President. If you are not sure what you would like to do-but want to do something-let us know a little about you and we'll offer some suggestions.

Write for the AWIS Magazine

Would you like to write about a specific topic, do a regular (or irregular) column on women in science activities, including local chapters of AWIS? Contact Faye Farmer, our editor.
